Intro

Ever since I was a little kid film, books and stories have fascinated me. I would dream that I lived in this alternative universe that was created on screen, in books and in my head. Life seemed so much more exciting when a story and visuals could take you out of your own reality and immersive you into theirs for a time. 

This is where I think the directions of luxury retail is going. It's definitely about giving an experience to a consumer. But what can retail designers and strategies learn from the film industry? It's amazing how films can transport a person out of their lives and place them into fantasy. This is done through attention to detail from the music, film sets, film props, graphics, costume design. 

How can retailers create immersive storytelling to communicate their core beliefs and values of the brand and build an authentic connection through the use of retail space, storytelling and usable props to allow people when entering their store to escape their lives and have fun. 

This section explores some of my favourites films in more depth. So I can understand the detail that is required to create this experience for the viewers.

1. Harry Potter 

Where to start examing the detail for the wizarding world of Harry Potter. There is just so much detail throughout the whole franchise. It is a great example of how a story can build a connection to people through imagination.  They really heavily focus on experience from books, films, tour, graphic design shop, platform 9/3 shop, rollercoasters, British library exhibition. There is just so much that brings this world to life and lets the consumers enjoy them selfs. 

The areas that I am going to focus on is film Sets, film props, costumes and music. This 4 areas can be used in a retail setting and I think is a great place to start trying to understand how films can immersive viewers into their reality.
